How do I start selling on Allegro?

Making your own online sales? Sounds like something big, requiring a technical background, marketing know-how and hundreds of hours of preparation. But the truth is that today, all you need is a computer, access to the internet and a few well thought-out decisions to get started.

And Allegro - the largest marketplace in Poland - is the perfect place to take the first step. Just how do you make it so you don't get stuck at the very beginning?

Start by deciding: private or company account?

Before you put up your first product, you need to decide as who you want to sell to. If you plan to sell occasionally or are testing your idea, you can even start without setting up a business - under what is known as an 'unregistered business'. This is a convenient solution for starting out, especially if you do not want to incur the costs associated with a company right away.

But it is useful to know the limitations of a private account:

  • You can sell on it, but you will not benefit from facilities such as „Send from Allegro”.
  • You do not activate the subscription, which means an additional charge of £1 per transaction.
  • A private account allows you to sell on Allegro Locally, although listings often appear in general search results anyway.
  • The turnover limit for non-registered activities is PLN 3499.50 gross per month (according to the regulations in force from 1 January 2025).

However, if you are thinking about regular sales, shop development, advertising and automation - it is better to set up a company account right away. This not only gives you more tools, but also the trust of your customers and better opportunities for growth.

In addition, with a company account, it is necessary to set up the terms and conditions of sale - such as the returns, complaints and delivery policy. Without this, you will not trigger active sales.

First steps - creating an account and preparing offers

Registration on Allegro is intuitive. All you need to do is fill in the form, confirm your details and - in the case of a company account - add your registration information and make a symbolic verification transfer. Once your account is activated, you can list your first auctions right away.

Making your first offer - step by step (and without stress)

Account ready, plan in mind - time to move on to action. Listing your first item on Allegro is the moment that often raises the most questions, but rest assured - the whole process is intuitive and really friendly, even if you're doing it for the first time.

After logging into your account, click „Issue via the form” or go to „My range” if you want to have control over more products.

Step 1: Find the product in the catalogue

Enter the product name - Allegro will automatically suggest entries from the catalogue. If you find an exact match, you complete most of the technical parameters with a single click and receive a ready-made title. Save time and be more precise!

💡 If your item does not exist in the catalogue, no problem - click „continue without selecting a product” and manually select the relevant category (you can also enter the category number).

Step 2: Create a title and describe the product

This is where you have complete control. The title should include the most important features of the product - the more specific, the better. Also fill in the technical parameters, add high-quality photos (from different perspectives!) and create a description that will convince the customer. Don't just inform - tell the story of the product, highlight its benefits, its use, its uniqueness.

Step 3: Define the terms of sale

  • Select your bid type: Buy Now, Auction or a combination of both.
  • Set price, number of pieces, duration.
  • Fill in the „Delivery and payment” section - specify shipping method, lead time, payment methods.
  • Indicate the location of the warehouse or shipping point.

Step 4: Returns, complaints and promotions

If you're operating on a corporate account, you'll need to set up a returns and complaints policy - this is a formal requirement, without which the offer won't go live. You can also select additional services - such as gift wrapping, parcel insurance or offer promotion (Allegro Ads).

Step 5: Finalisation

See a summary of the charges and a preview of the listing - this will make sure everything looks as it should. When you're ready, click „List Item”. If there's anything you want to amend, select „Return to listing” - nothing happens automatically.

How much does it cost? Allegro and sales commissions

This is one of the most frequently asked questions. The good news - just listing on Allegro is free. The only thing you pay is a commission on the sale. Its amount depends on the product category and can vary - from as little as 1% in some health sections, up to 17% in the „Other and Accessories” category.

The majority of commissions fall within the 5-11% range, for example in the „Home and Garden” or „Fashion” categories. We have attached the current commission grid below to help you plan your margins and prices for your products:

Unsure how much commission will realistically „eat away” at your margin? Our specialists can quickly calculate this and propose an optimal pricing strategy.

Traffic, sales and advertising - or how not to get lost in the crowd

Even the best offer will not sell without visibility. Allegro works like a search engine - the user types in a keyword and the system displays the most suitable offers. Therefore, not only the title and description matter, but also account activity, ratings, quality of service or the use of Allegro Ads.

When scale increases - automation and external tools

Over time, as the number of orders and products grows, there is a need to organise processes. At this point, it is worth thinking about tools such as Base. - Formerly Baselinker, that automate the management of warehousing, quoting, order processing and shipping. For many companies, this is a breakthrough - it not only saves time, but also avoids errors and scales up sales without increasing workload.

Allegro is not just a marketplace - it's a real growth opportunity

Selling online today does not require complex technology, hundreds of thousands of zlotys of investment or a staff of people. It requires a good idea, determination and the support of someone who knows this market inside out. Allegro gives you access to millions of customers - you just need to use it wisely.

You don't have to know everything. You can do what you're best at - and we'll take care of the rest.
