How do you make your online shop visible in AI responses?

The way customers search for products online is changing faster than many retailers have managed to notice. Increasingly, instead of typing a query into Google, users are asking artificial intelligence-based tools directly: GPT, Claude, Perplexity or Gemini. These are the ones that answer questions such as „where best to buy”, „which shop is trustworthy” or „which option to choose”.

If your online shop does not appear in such responses, you are realistically losing some traffic and sales - even if you have a good offer, pricing and logistics. Visibility in AI is becoming a new area of competitive advantage today, alongside SEO and sales platforms.

Why does AI recommend some shops and skip others?

Language models do not work like a classic search engine. They do not sort results according to a single list of ranking factors. Instead, they build answers based on signals from multiple sources: web content, customer reviews, expert publications, structured data and current brand visibility.

In practice, this means that AI „trusts” shops that:

  • are often mentioned in credible places,
  • have coherent and rich content,
  • gather feedback and reviews,
  • are technically correct and easy for algorithms to interpret.

The absence of any of these elements can mean that your brand simply does not appear in the responses.

How to check if AI „sees” your shop?

Typing the prompt in ChatGPT once does not give an authoritative picture. AI responses vary depending on:

  • the context of the question,
  • words used,
  • product categories,
  • and sometimes even a day.

In addition, there is personalisation - if you are testing on your own account, the model can be based on your query history.

Therefore, a sensible approach looks different:

  • you are testing many enquiries (different purchase intentions),
  • you repeat the tests periodically,
  • you compare results over time,
  • you analyse not only whether the brand appears, but why.

This is where tools that monitor the visibility of brands in AI responses, such as PromptEye, come in, automating testing and eliminating the problem of personalisation.

The most common reasons for a shop not being visible in AI

  1. Lack of confidence signalled by opinions

AI is very keen on user-generated content. If your shop hardly exists on review sites or Google reviews, the algorithms have few signals to confirm the credibility of the brand.

What is worth doing:

  • actively collect feedback after purchase,
  • use systems that automate reviews,
  • respond to feedback - including difficult feedback.
  1. Poor or chaotic data structure

AI models do not „read” pages like a human. They rely on structure and semantic signals. Shops without correctly implemented structural data (schema.org) are more difficult for algorithms to understand.

Without this layer, AI may not know:

  • That you are selling a specific product,
  • what its price is,
  • whether it is available,
  • What opinions it has.
  1. Absence of presence in the sources that AI cites

If your brand never appears in industry articles, rankings, expert media or comparisons, AI has no reference points to recommend it.

In practice, models are more often based on:

  • large business portals,
  • thematic services,
  • expert blogs,
  • lists such as „best shops with...”.
  1. Technical problems in the shop

Technical errors are still of great importance - not only for SEO, but also for AI. If robots are unable to index a page correctly, language models will not use it either.

Most common problems:

  • 404 errors,
  • slow page loading,
  • problems with the mobile version,
  • content hidden in JavaScript,
  • duplication of URLs.
  1. Poor SEO (which still matters)

Although there is much talk of the „end of SEO”, in practice the opposite is true. AI very often uses current search results (especially Bing). If your website is poorly optimised and does not appear in the organic results, the models simply will not „find” it.

Visibility in AI is a multi-channel game

The best results are achieved by shops that have a presence in multiple locations at the same time:

  • on its own website with extensive content,
  • on a blog answering customer questions,
  • in opinion portals,
  • in the trade media,
  • on sales platforms,
  • in rankings and comparisons,
  • in social media and video content.

AI sees a brand in the context of an entire ecosystem, not a single site.

What content increases the chances of recommendation by AI?

Models prefer content that is complete and useful. For product sheets, this means:

  • detailed description of applications,
  • specific technical parameters,
  • information on guarantees and returns,
  • FAQs answering real customer questions,
  • opinions and reviews,
  • multimedia (photos, video).

The more context you provide, the easier it is for AI to „understand” who to recommend your shop to and in what situation.

Summary

The visibility of an online shop in AI is not a matter of one trick or one tool. It is a result of:

  • quality of content,
  • brand reputation,
  • correct data structure,
  • presence in external sources,
  • a solid foundation in SEO and technology.

For e-commerce in 2025, this is a natural progression - alongside Google, sales platforms and paid campaigns. Shops that start working on this earlier will build an advantage before AI visibility becomes standard.
