Why does the marketplace block a listing? The most common data errors
A listing on a marketplace may be blocked even if the product is in stock, the price is correct and the photos look good. Most often, the problem lies not with the product itself, but with the product data: the EAN, category, specifications, description, photos or import file.
Marketplaces such as Allegro, Amazon, eMAG, Kaufland and Temu are increasingly checking whether listings comply with the product catalogue, the platform’s terms and conditions, and the requirements of the relevant category. If the system detects an error, the product may be rejected, held pending correction, or have its visibility restricted.
Incorrect EAN
One of the most common problems is an incorrect EAN. The code may be assigned to a different variant, a different capacity, colour, size or even a different brand.
A common mistake is using a single EAN for several product variants. Each variant should have its own code; otherwise, the marketplace may treat the listing as a duplicate or incorrectly link it to the catalogue.
Wrong category
Choosing the wrong category may block your listing as early as the product upload stage. The category affects the required parameters, commission, visibility and filters, so it should not be chosen at random.
The product must be placed where the customer is actually looking for it and where it fits in accordance with the platform’s rules.
No parameters
Each category has its own required fields. These may include brand, colour, material, capacity, size, model, quantity, compatibility or manufacturer’s code.
If the parameters are empty or have been filled in too generally, the offer may not pass validation.

Inconsistent data
The Marketplace may suspend a listing if the title, description, photo and specifications suggest otherwise.
Example: the title says „set of 4”, the description says „2”, the photo shows 3 items, and the product details state „1”. Such inconsistencies can lead to listings being blocked, complaints and negative reviews.
A risky description
The description should be persuasive, but it must not mislead the customer. The problem lies in exaggerated promises and unsubstantiated claims, such as „guaranteed results”, „the best on the market”, „100% safe”, „cures” or „certified”, if there is no supporting documentation.
This is particularly important when it comes to cosmetics, supplements, electronics, cleaning products and children’s products.
Incorrect photos
Photos can also be a reason for a listing being blocked. The most common mistakes include poor quality, additional text, promotional graphics, showing a different variant, or a photo of a set when the offer is for a single item.
The photo must show exactly the product the customer is buying.

Errors in the variants
Variants often cause problems during bulk imports. An incorrect group code, an incorrect variant attribute, different categories, mismatched images or a single EAN for several product versions can cause the platform to reject the entire group of listings.
This applies in particular to products that come in different colours, sizes, capacities, scents or styles.
Errors in the import file
If there are a large number of products, the file itself may be the problem. An incorrect CSV separator, incorrect encoding, empty columns, incorrectly formatted HTML, extra spaces in the SKU, or an EAN stored as a number can halt the import.
That is why, before sending a file, it is worth checking not only its content but also its technical format.

Summary
The marketplace most often blocks listings when product details are incomplete, inconsistent or do not comply with the platform’s requirements. A correct EAN, the right category, complete specifications, compliant images and a well-prepared import file significantly reduce the risk of a product being rejected.
At bTOP, we help companies organise their product data on marketplaces such as Allegro, Amazon, eMAG, Kaufland, Temu and other sales platforms. We check categories, specifications, EANs, variants, photos, descriptions and import files to ensure products are approved more quickly and can actually start selling.
