New e-commerce requirements: withdrawal from a contract with Kaufland

The e-commerce market in the European Union is constantly evolving, and with it the regulations aimed at enhancing consumer protection. From 19 June 2026, new regulations resulting from EU Directive 2023/2673 and amendments to the German Civil Code (BGB, § 356a) will come into force. If you sell on a platform Kaufland, this post will guide you through the changes step by step.

What does the change involve?

The new regulations require e-commerce platforms to provide consumers with a simple, electronic option to withdraw from the contract. The aim is clear: the returns process should be quick, intuitive and fully transparent for the buyer.

What does the process look like from the customer’s perspective?

Kaufland Global Marketplace had already taken care of the technical aspects on 8 June 2026. This feature is automatically available to customers across all sales channels (website and mobile app) in the section:

Home > Footer > Help and contact > Cancellation of the contract.

What is the returns process like from the seller’s perspective?

The good news is that, despite the changes to the regulations, your work as a sales assistant is becoming more organised. Thanks to automation, you no longer need to manually check emails containing notices of withdrawal from a contract. Everything is sent to a single place in your dashboard.

Where can you find customer reports? To check for new notifications, simply follow these three steps:

1. Log in to your dashboard Kaufland Global Marketplace.
2. Go to the tab Order Management.
3. Select a section Returns.

Here you will see all the tickets generated by customers. The system will automatically link each ticket to a specific order number, allowing you to take the next steps straight away.

Your responsibilities: updating legal texts

Although Kaufland Once the necessary technology has been implemented, you, as a seller, are obliged to updating their legal documents (Information on withdrawing from the contract).

Please include information about the new online feature in your guidance on withdrawing from a contract. You can use the template below:

• Text of the provision: „Withdrawal from the contract is also possible electronically via the platform Kaufland ”Click here to make a return.’
• Destination link: [http://kaufland.de/account/orders?source=footer](http://kaufland.de/account/orders?source=footer)

Why is this a benefit for your business?

• Automation: There is no need to process email enquiries manually.
• Faster service: The clear dashboard enables you to respond instantly, which builds customer trust.
• Full compliance: By using the platform’s tools, you automatically comply with the requirements of Section 356a of the German Civil Code (BGB) and EU Directive 2023/2673.
